🇸🇪 🇪🇺 Sweden joined the EU in 1995 after a referendum, when the majority of the Swedish voters said 'yes'.
🇸🇪 🇪🇺 In another referendum in 2003, the Swedish people said 'no' to the euro, so Sweden still has the Swedish krona, SEK, as currency.
🇸🇪 🇪🇺 For Swedish citizens the EU membership means, among other things, the right to study and work in the other EU countries with minimal bureaucracy.
🇸🇪 🇪🇺 Size-wise, Sweden is the 3rd largest country in the EU.
🇸🇪 🇪🇺 Population-wise, Sweden is the 10th largest.
🇸🇪 🇪🇺 Gender equality-wise, Sweden ranks 1st in the EU's own index.
🇸🇪 🇪🇺 The presidency of the Council of the EU rotates – Sweden has so far chaired it three times.
🇸🇪 🇪🇺 Altogether, around 1,200 Swedes work in the EU administration.
🇸🇪 🇪🇺 Sweden has 21 members in the European Parliament (Germany, the EU's most populous country, has 96 members).
