Captions Press freedom is fundamental to Sweden’s commitment to openness and transparency.
🔍 Thanks to the principle of public access, anyone – journalists not the least – can view official documents (with few exceptions) and hold authorities accountable at all levels.
🤐 The law protects the identities of sources who provide publishers, editors or news agencies with information, and journalists can never be forced to reveal their sources.

🌎 On the 2025 World Press Freedom Index by Reporters Without Borders, Sweden ranks #4, with Nordic neighbour Norway #1. The ranking highlights the degree of freedom that journalists and news organisations have in 180 different countries, and the efforts that authorities make to safeguard this freedom.
