In this toolkit, we explore the world of Swedish children's literature and celebrate the power of storytelling and its profound impact on young minds.
Target audience Young as well as adult literature enthusiasts.
How to use Children's literature You can use the different parts of this toolkit individually or combine Little library and the poster exhibition about the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award (ALMA). You can also arrange events in connection with Little library and the ALMA exhibition.
The exhibition material is available as high-resolution PDF files in English and as word files for translation. When you translate the material to your local language, always contact the Swedish Institute for information about existing translations and help creating high-resolution PDF print files.

It is a small library and a playful space for children that can serve as a window for your Sweden promotion. The library is of adjustable size and can stay in one venue for a long time, because visitors can enjoy coming more than once.

Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award Download overview (PDF 3 MB) ALMA exhibition overview The Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award (ALMA) is the largest award of its kind. The global award is given annually to a person or organisation for their outstanding contribution to children’s and young adult literature. A total of 265 candidates from 72 countries were nominated for the 2025 award.

Event suggestions Embassies are encouraged to embrace creativity and adapt these ideas to make the most of the materials available in the toolkit. The material can be tailored to suit your specific audience and objective.
Little Library - Partner with a local library to set up the Little Library, a playful space for children. Feature storytelling sessions, art and craft activities, and mini book signings with local authors.
Book Fairs and Exhibitions - Participate in local book fairs or festivals.
Author Visits - Arrange visits by Swedish children's authors.
Read-Aloud Sessions - Host regular read-aloud sessions at libraries, schools, and community centers, featuring classic and contemporary Swedish children's stories.
